Two ecological events were held in Bishkek during the general Saturday clean-up day on September 26th: “TazaBish” (Clean Bishkek) eco-action and “FSC-Week”, an annual holiday dedicated to creating responsible care for forests.

The goals of these events were to protect the ecology and forests and to encourage Bishkek citizens to not simply be outside observers, but to revive the attitude of getting involved and working on ecological issues.

During the Saturday clean-up, trash was cleaned up along the area where Toktonaliev street crosses South Highway. After, trees were planted the length of the street.

Kyrgyzstan’s ex-president Roza Otunbayeva attended the event.

The action by “TazaBish” (Clean Bishkek) was organized by The “Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva” International Public Foundation under the eco-project “Think Globally – Act Locally: Improving ecological responsibility among children and youth.”

Close to 500 people attended the Saturday clean-up, with technical support provided by the “GreenOrder” and “Cleanliness” municipal businesses. Student and public ecological organizations as well as staff from the Mayor’s office attended the event.
