Workshop on the School Meal Program: Plans and Activities to Optimize Nutrition for Schoolchildren in the Kyrgyz Republic

On May 14, 2024, a workshop on the school meal program was organized by the World Food Programme in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the Roza Otunbaeva Initiative Foundation serving as the executive partner of the event.

 

The seminar aimed to present plans and activities for optimizing school nutrition from 2024 to 2027.

 

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic at both central and district levels, including 61 specialists from district and city educational organizations responsible for school meals. Additionally, representatives from the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, international organizations (UNICEF, FAO), international financial organizations, the Institute of Sectoral Nutrition, and the UN World Food Programme were present.

 

Key topics covered during the workshop included: Presentation on the ten-year optimization of school feeding by the United Nations World Food Programme in the Kyrgyz Republic; Presentation on sustainability research, policy recommendations, and methodological advice; Review and discussion of regulations on school feeding in state and municipal general education organizations of the Kyrgyz Republic; Introduction to the Law "On Education" and the new regulation on school meals; Training on the new regulations and menu of school meals in the Kyrgyz Republic.
