Aigul Zhaparova and Roza Otunbaeva addressed the Second Women's Leadership Forum

On August 21-22, the Second National Forum "Women's Leadership - A Breakthrough to a New Era" was held in Kyrgyzstan.

 

Aigul Japarova, first lady and director of “Ene-Balaga Tirek” Public Foundation; Roza Otunbaeva, former President of Kyrgyzstan; Antje Grawe, UN Resident Coordinator Kyrgyzstan; Kudaibergen Bazarbaev, Minister of Labor and Social Development; Edil Baisalov; female members of Parliament and local councils; representatives of district and regional administrations, and other political leaders took part.

 


The participants discussed the issues of promoting women's leadership and its diversity, recognizing the significant contribution of women in the development of the country in the context of new challenges and instability in the region and in the context of reform processes.


They developed a joint action plan to promote women's leadership at different levels of decision-making, eliminate violence against women and girls, empower women economically, and increase women's contribution to environmental conservation and peace building.

 

The event highlighted the role of women pioneers who founded Kyrgyzstan's science, industry, transportation, electricity infrastructure, opera and ballet, education, foreign policy, culture and sports, as well as women who contributed to the creation of modern Kyrgyzstan.


The event was organized by the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic, in cooperation with UN Women in the Kyrgyz Republic and Aigul Japarova's “Ene-Balaga Tirek” Public Foundation, with support from the UN World Food Programme, the Swiss government and the Joint EU-UN "Ray of Light" initiative.
