“Caravan of Knowledge”

February 26, 2013, 06:00

On February 26th the “Caravan of Knowledge” will begin in from the Kara-Suu District of Osh Oblast. In this project, experts and Kyrgyzstani parliamentary and governmental representatives will meet with local communities, discuss the issues of access to high-quality preschool education, the importance of reading in early childhood, women’s health and the proper choosing of professions by village youth.

Today in Kyrgyzstan there is an urgent need to solve the issue of high-quality preschool education, which today is available to only 14% of all children in Kyrgyzstan. Some of the factors of early childhood development are reading at a preschool age and efforts on the part of parents and local communities in supporting libraries, open community kindergartens and short-term school preparation courses.

The health conditions of rural women are no less important. A greater awareness of risk factors, the early detection and prevention of disease, and the joint work of health committees and local authorities – these are all issues that will be examined in the meetings.

Considering the high degree of migration and uneven economic development of oblasts and districts, the professional and technical orientation in choosing a future profession is very important for students. Gaining a concrete capable and relevant profession will help village youths reinforce the development of their village and nation as a whole.

The “Caravan of Knowledge” is one of the initiatives of the “Roza Otunbayeva Initiative” International Public Foundation in cooperation with the Kyrgyzstani branch of UNICEF.
