Meetings and Presentations with ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic R. Otunbayeva in Early June.

Ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic R. Otunbayeva took part in a meeting of a network of scientists and experts on the implementation of the UN Goals for Sustainable Development. The meeting took place in Brussels on March 30th and March 31st, 2016. The Network (SDSN), under the leadership of the director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University Jeffrey Sachs, was a leader in the development of Global Strategy 2030, which was approved by heads of states and governments at the 2015 UN General Assembly. The Network also made a significant contribution to the development of documents concerning climate change, “Paris 2015.” An active effort is currently underway among UN member nations to develop national strategies to meet the goals set out by the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. In universities all over the world classes are being offered on sustainable development. In Africa, Malaysia, and Singapore, special scientific-educational Centers for Sustainable Development are being created to help governments in the development and realization of policies and programs for sustainable development, business, services, and job creation. The Network is currently developing indices and indicators, which will be used to rate every country’s progress in accomplishing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. The first discussion will take place in 2016.


R. Otunbayeva also conducted a number of meetings with representatives from the European Commission and President of the International Crisis Group, J-M Guehenno.

 

On June 2nd, R. Otunbayeva spoke at the plenary session of the “Expanding Leadership Opportunities for Women: The Next Step in the Development of Kyrgyzstan” National Congress, which was hosted in Bishkek with the participation of Congressmen from the USA. The event was made possible through the support of the International Regional Institute (IRI), The National Democratic Institute in the Kyrgyz Republic (NDI), and the Women’s Democracy Network. The event was funded by USAID. The conference was aimed at creating a platform for women to discuss obstacles to the expansion of political and economic opportunities for women. Participants discussed current international experiences, successes, and achievements of Kyrgyz women, while also discussing how to strengthen women’s networks that can help develop Kyrgyzstan.

 

On June 2nd, 2016, Ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic R. Otunbayeva participated in a memorial event for the well-known democrat, publicist, and founder of the “Shoro” company and the “Supara” cultural ethno-complexes Tabilda Egemberdiev. She shared her memories about the outstanding entrepreneur of the new Kyrgyzstan, about Tabilda Egemberdiev’s cooperation with the Foundation, and his active participation in the Mekendeshter Forums in 2012 and 2014.


On June 6th, 2016, R. Otunbayeva met with a delegation of master’s students from the leading universities of the US (Harvard, MIT, Tufts) at the DJ. Balsagin Kyrgyz National University. During the course of the event, the ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic spoke about the challenges Kyrgyzstan has faced, what direction the country is headed in, and what role leaders of the country play in the different stages of development.


On June 8th, 2016, the K. Karasaev Bishkek Humanities University hosted a conference on the topic of “Mahatma Gandhi and Modern India,” as well as a presentation of the Kyrgyz-language edition of M. Gandhi’s book My Experiments with Truth.


Ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva gave a welcoming speech to the assembled conference guests; as she was the driving force behind the translation of M. Gandhi’s book My Experiments with Truth.


In addition, General Secretary of the Kyrgyz MID Daniyar Sidikov, Director of the Fourth Police Department of the Kyrgyz MID Djenbek Kooloobaev, Plenipotentiary Indian Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic Janayat Khobragade, President of the National Academy of Science of the Kyrgyz Republic A. Erkebaev, Plenipotentiary Ambassador S. Kadiraliev, National and Social Activist of the Kyrgyz Republic E.S. Kaptagaev, Indonologist E.N. Kablukov, Candidate of Historical Sciences at the K. Karasaev Bishkek Humanities University T.M. Riskulov, Professor at the B. Yeltsin KRCY M.N. Sooyumbaev, President of the Kyrgyz-Indian Diplomatic Foundation N. Kemelbaev, President of the UNPK MUK A. Aidaraliev, Director of the Kyrgyz-Indian Mountain Biomedical Scientific Center Professor A. Saribaev, and Director of“Indomed” LLC Chingis Mirzaev all presented.

 

On June 9th, 2016, R. Otunbayeva participated in the latest “Evening of Poetry” event, which was organized by the IPF “Roza Otunbayeva Initiative” in cooperation with the Kyrgyz National Philharmonic and the Kyrgyz Writers Union. The evening was dedicated to the works of young artists from all over Kyrgyzstan, such as Z. Adjimatov, E. Djumagaziev, A. Bakirova, K. Tadjieva, S. Batirkulova, and A. Ismailov.


On June 10th, 2016, Ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic R. Otunbayeva gave a welcoming speech at the opening of the Anniversary (20th) of the National ENACTUS Competitions at AUTSA.
