With the support of the “Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva” International Public Foundation, Osh National University completed the first Saturday summer school session for women in computer literacy on August 29th. Participants at the Saturday school were mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology teachers from Osh City and Kara-Suu Rayon.

The long-range goals of the summer school are to assist women and girls in achieving their felt-needs for self and professional development in computer technology. The MKT course “Computer Literacy” is directed towards both users with no prior computer knowledge and those who use computers for their own private work and already have some computer abilities.

Fifty women and girls attended the first session of the summer school. Participants attended classes from 9:00-12:00 Saturdays between June 13th and August 29th at the Osh National University computer center. The ladies studied with the help of an interactive smart board gaining practical knowledge through hands on lessons accessing the university’s various communicative networks such as: e-readers, electronically equipped lecture halls, working with laboratory equipment, presentations, video lessons and teacher programs.

Today, graduates of the summer school program proficiently use computers, printers, scanners and interactive smart boards in their professional work. With the help of local and global networks, graduates can search and access electronic material to prepare and give presentations.

As a reminder, after two groups of 25 women were signed up for classes, the number of women who wanted to join increased and so it was decided to open up an additional group for classes. The additional group’s classes have been extended through September 12th.
