Today, 13 December 2012, a ceremony took place in Washington D.C. in which the Ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Roza Otunbayeva, was awarded the Bill Maynes. Bill Maynes, a famous actor both in government and in private life, was a former American Secretary of State (1977-1980) as well as chairman of the Eurasia Foundation in Washington D.C. until 2007. The Bill Maynes Award was founded by the Eurasia Foundation with the aim of recognizing the extraordinary contribution of individuals in the development of their own countries. 

In 2012 Ex-President Roza Otunbayeva was chosen for her visionary leadership and dignified service to the state. 

The award ceremony was opened with a speech from the Assistant Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, which underlined the important role of Ms. Otunbayeva in leading the nation through a difficult transitional period. 

More than 200 individuals participated in the event, including representatives of the American Government, the diplomatic corps, international organizations, academic circles and others.
