Teachers of the capital told about food safety
February 17, 2016, 06:00On February 15, food safety lectures were held for teachers in Bishkek under the “Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva” Foundation’s eco-project "Think globally, act locally: increasing ecological responsibility among children and youth" in the ecological and economic lyceum № 65. Environmentalist and executive director of the environmental movement “BIOM,” Anna Kirilenko, gave a lecture titled “Food Safety.” The lecture covered the various aspects of food risks. Listeners were taught how to identify many new risks associated with various types of food additives and modified foods (conversion, modification of anything with the acquisition of new properties), genetically modified foods, the methods of determining the safety of packaging and utensils, and how to prevent brucellosis, botulism, etc. During the event, the teachers were shown how to identify as well as the various risks of diluted milk, sour cream with starch additives, and disposable tea bags and milk products. "Ecological security is a relatively new and very urgent topic for teachers, since the foundations for a lifetime of health are laid during childhood and adolescence. I felt from the audience intense interest and it is gratifying to realize that this is only the beginning of lectures on this topic. I think that we will be able to add to our own efforts over the many years of our work to help improve the health and quality of life of students,” said Anna Kirilenko. Also during the event, the teachers were given CD-drives on the theme "Food Security,” which included the presentation outline, the presentation of food safety, as well as lesson plans for the classroom. The lecture was concluded by the students of the educational complex grammar school #67, who presented theatrical performances and a small concert on the protection of the environment and conservation of water. Seventy-eight Bishkek teachers of biology, geography, and chemistry participated in the event. As part of the lecture, students had the opportunity to receive new BIOM posters, who collected a range of food safety materials.
