January 22, 2016, 06:00A lecture on ecology was held January 21 for teachers in Bishkek within the framework of The “Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva” Foundation’s eco-project "Think globally, act locally: increasing ecological responsibility among children and youth" in the education complex #67. Ecologist and executive director of the environmental movement “BIOM”, Anna Kirilenko, gave a lecture on the theme: “Ecological Security: Features of school work for ensuring security.” It was the first introductory lecture on the topic, where different aspects of the environmental risks have been highlighted. Students were introduced to the concept of "risk society,” and its basic outline and problems. It shows how in a changing world, there are an increasing number of risks that threaten our health, and therefore there is a need to form special risk assessment skills to minimize them in our daily lives, both at school and at home. During the lecture, various examples were selected that are commonly used in schools, such as environmentally friendly food products, soap, detergents, and construction materials. According to Anna Kirilenko: "Ecological security is a relatively new and very urgent topic for teachers, since the foundations for a lifetime of health are laid during childhood and adolescence. I felt from the audience intense interest and it is gratifying to realize that this is only the beginning of lectures on this topic. I think that we will be able to add to our own efforts over the many years of our work to help improve the health and quality of life of students,” said Anna Kirilenko. Also during the lecture, a presentation of the results of the 2015 lecture eco-project "Think globally, act locally: increasing environmental responsibility among children and youth" and the activities and eco-actions planned in cooperation with the Department of Education of the Municipality of Bishkek for 2016 were given. The lecture was concluded with an eco-presentation by the students of Gymnasium School #67 education complex accompanied by a slide show titled, “We protect our planet.” One hundred sixty seven teachers of biology, geography and chemistry from Bishkek schools participated in the event. “Ecological Calendar” and “Rules of Young Bishkekians” posters were distributed through the eco-project. As part of the lecture, students had the opportunity to obtain a new publication of the environmental movement BIOM titled "Environmental Security in the context of sustainable development," for which a great amount of material was collected on Kyrgyzstan.
