Bishkek Residents Become Acquainted with the Dungan Musical Culture
March 24, 2014, 06:00To understand a nation’s soul, it is necessary to go to a traditional festival, listen to music, witness some of the customs and taste national dishes. On March 23, 2014, the concert-lecture “Music, Soul of the People: Dungan” gave the opportunity to an audience to become acquainted with the musical culture and tradition of one of the most mysterious ethnic groups living in Kyrgyzstan. The concert program included an ancient dance with sticks, a bridal fashion show, Dungan proverbs, beautiful songs and much more. The “Music, Soul of a Nation” concert-lecture series is a presentation of the Roza Otunbayeva Initiative in conjunction with the Assembly of the People’s of Kyrgyzstan with the support of the UNDP and the “Start” Printing Complex. Previous editions of the series have featured Korean, North Caucasian, Ukrainian and Kazakh musical cultures.
