Bishkek Celebrates Children’s Book Day
April 1, 2014, 06:00“Reading aloud, especially for children, is the most important thing in education.”
V. Аstafiev
Every year, April 2nd is designated as the International Day of Children’s Books – a holiday established by the International Council on Children’s Books.
The date of the holiday marks the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen, one of the most beloved storytellers of many generations of children. The main purpose of the holiday is to promote children’s reading as an effective tool for spiritual and intellectual development.
Today’s children and adolescents may often see reading books as boring when compared to watching TV or playing video games. However, the real world provides many well-known examples of successful people to whom reading has had a positive impact. To spread the message of reading, some successful and well-known people from our own country have decided to participate in the Roza Otunbayeva Initiative’s "Stars Reading to Children".
On April 2, International Children’s Book Day, the Roza Otunbayeva Initiative, in association with the Public Broadcasting Corporation, will present “Stars of OTRK Reading to Children.”
The purpose of this project is to show that reading is a path to success. Interesting television and radio personalities can inspire children to make reading a happy, lifelong habit. Their voices will bring beloved stories to life, sparking interest in books and in reading generally.
We believe this program will provide children with a unique opportunity to become acquainted with their famous countrymen, listen to wise advice from elders and learn their own reading preferences. They will also be able to ask questions or share their thoughts.
On April 2nd, the following stars will come to OTRK to read to children:
1. Otorbaev Kubat Tabyldievich - General Director of the National Broadcasting Corporation of the KR. 1 p.m. at School 77.
2. Imanaliev Kairat – Deputy Director General of the National Broadcasting Corporation of the KR. 11 a.m. at Ak-Orgo Preschool number 184.
