Former President Roza Otunbayeva Visits India and the UAE

March 13-14, 2014 – Former President Otunbayeva attended a board meeting of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development held in New Delhi, India under the auspices of UNESCO.


The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development is the intellectual center for fostering attitudes of sustainable development in the minds of young people through education, as well as a tool for promoting sustainable lifestyles. The Institute has been conceptualizing and justifying investment in people while strengthening the role of education to promote sustainable development and mutual understanding and respect between cultures.


March 16-17, 2014 – Former President Otunbayeva participated in the World Forum on Education and Skills Development in 2014 under the auspices of UNESCO, the Emirati government and the GEMS Foundation.


The World Forum was attended by seven presidents and prime ministers, 32 ministers of education, experts, international leaders in education, heads of educational institutions, school directors, training institute managers and specialists, teachers, as well as business, NGO and media representatives.


Over the course of the Forum, more than 50 performances, lectures, workshops and presentations from leading experts in education took place.


The major topics discussed were affordable education, development of education and the role of the private sector thereof, globalization and the national character of schools, problems differentiating between education levels, the quality of the teaching profession in the 21st century, girls’ education and the use of modern technology.


Former President Otunbayeva spoke during a panel session with heads of state moderated by Fareed Zakaria, one of the most influential and popular American political analysts, international relations expert, as well as editor of Newsweek magazine.
