Roza Otunbayeva speaks to students at Jalal-Abad State University

February 10 – Former President Roza Otunbayeva gave a lecture on her vision for economic development in Kyrgyzstan at Jalal-Abad State University.


Speaking on the economic situation in Kyrgyzstan and the various pathways to development, Otunbayeva cited developed nations such as Japan and Germany. In comparing Kyrgyzstan’s per capita GDP ($1,000) to Kazakhstan’s ($3,000) and Russia’s ($15,000), she remarked that, “different countries have varied capabilities to improve the standards of living of their populations.”


“It is necessary to develop the Kyrgyz economy and raise our per capita GDP.”


The former President’s lecture was given to a packed house of students and teachers in the large auditorium at Jalal-Abad State University.
