Roza Otunbayeva visits Jalal-Abad University and Suzak District preschools
February 11, 2014, 06:00IA Tushtuk – February 10, 2014 – The former President of Kyrgyzstan and local officials of the Jalal-Abad region visited a number of schools and preschools.
Deputy Minister of Education and Science Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director Ram Saravanamuttu and UNICEF Kyrgyzstan head Jonathan accompanied the former president and founder of the Roza Otunbayeva Initiative IPF.
The delegation met with Jalal-Abad mayor Zhusubali Toromamatov and Suzak district akim Nurbolot Mirzahmetov. On their tour of three local preschools, Otunbayeva noticed that children aged three to six were being grouped together in one of the schools, thus limiting those students’ chances for successful entrances into the first grade. The regional administrator promised to rectify the situation and gave relevant instructions to the district akim.
At a meeting with students and teachers at Jalal-Abad State University, the former President addressed the need to improve students’ nutritional health by making conventional products like biscuits, milk and porridge available to them at school. She also mentioned her wish for children from extremely remote areas in the mountains to have access to preschools.
The former President is currently in Jalal-Abad and plans to visit School Number 16 in Suzak center to inspect a newly opened preschool according to IA Tushtuk Jalal-Abad correspondent Djusup Kambaraly.
