Official handover of equipment in Cholpon-Ata
April 26, 2024, 12:29The official handover of equipment and materials for
climate emergency response took place recently. The event was organized within
the framework of the project "Supporting Collective Response to Climate
Emergencies and Creating Sustainable Development Pathways to Support Human
Security and 'Green' Transformation". The project is implemented by the International
Public Foundation Roza Otunbaeva Initiative with the support of UNDP and
funding from the Government of Japan.
The handover ceremony, which took place in the city of
Cholpon-Ata, was attended by Japarbek Ormonov, the head of the Issyk-Kul
district, Colonel Myrlan Karabaev, the head of the department of the Ministry
of Emergency Situations in the Issyk-Kul region, as well as representatives of
local self-government bodies and project beneficiaries.
The equipment handed over includes essential materials
ranging from quadcopters for aerial photography to equipment for working in
extreme conditions such as waterproof jackets and boots, tents, specialized
tools, and emergency relief equipment such as stretchers and first aid kits.
The list of monitoring equipment was compiled with
input from experts and local representatives of the Ministry of Emergency
Situations (MES) working in the field. Similarly, the selection of tools was
based on suggestions from local self-government (LSG) representatives.
The project "Reducing Risks and Vulnerability
from Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) and Landslides in Kyrgyzstan"
focuses on strengthening the national disaster monitoring system and improving
the adaptive capacity of communities.
It aims to increase resilience to climate change and
reduce vulnerability to significant challenges, such as GLOF, through improved
disaster monitoring and forecasting. As a result, environmental monitoring
teams were established, and guidelines and training modules developed. Disaster
preparedness trainings and workshops were conducted, and the project also
played a crucial role in raising public awareness of disaster risk and
resilience at various levels.
Representatives from state authorities and project beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the UNDP and the International Public Foundation Roza Otunbaeva Initiative for their support and the successful implementation of this project.
