September 19, 2023, 01:13The International Public Foundation Roza Otunbaeva Initiative,
in collaboration with the Public Foundation Eco Demi and volunteers from the
Red Crescent of Kyrgyzstan, joined forces to commemorate National Cleanliness
Day and World Cleanup Day through active environmental initiatives.
The event took place in the vicinity of Ayu Grand
shopping center along Isakeeva Street, spanning from Cholpon Ata Street to
Auezov Street. The initiative garnered the participation of 20 volunteers who enthusiastically
undertook the task of cleaning the area from debris. During the environmental
action, more than 55 bags of garbage were collected, including 25 bags of
unsorted waste, 20 bags of plastic waste, and 10 bags of glass.
Representatives from these organizations expressed
their gratitude to all participants and partners who contributed to the success
of the event. The collaboration between the International Public Foundation
Roza Otunbaeva Initiative, Eco Demi Public Foundation, and the Red Crescent of
Kyrgyzstan showcased the strength of public unity in achieving a shared
objective – a clean and healthy planet.
Background: The concept of World Cleanup Day
originated from activists in Estonia. It was in this country that the Let's
Make! movement, now celebrating its 12th anniversary, was born. Over the years,
Cleanup Day has gained international recognition, engaging 18 million people
worldwide. World Cleanup Day serves as a platform to draw public attention to
the environmental situation, both nationally and globally. Environmental
pollution is a problem that claims millions of lives each year, and activists
urge citizens not only to participate in Cleanup Day but also to consider the
ongoing upkeep of cleanliness in public spaces, responsible resource
consumption, and proper waste disposal.
In September 2022, the President of Kyrgyzstan, S.
Zhaparov, issued a nationwide decree establishing National Cleanliness Day.
