Opening held for natural-technical course (STEM) winter school for upper-class female students of new schools in Bishkek

The winter school is being held through the joint support of the DAAD in Kyrgyzstan and The “Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva” IPF at the I. Razzakov KSTU campus under the project “Women in technology and science.”

I. Razzakov KSTU provost Murataly Jamanbaev, The “Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva” IPF executive director Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, Kyrgyzstan’s DAAD information Center head Ann Katrin Braumuller, The Deputy-Ambassador of Germany to the Kyrgyz Republic Anders Lundgren, and the director of the I. Razzakov KSTU Kyrgyz-German Technical Institute (KGTI) director Anipa Usupkojoeva attended the opening.

 

In their speeches, the speakers commented that educated women working in technical and scientific specialties are greatly sought after for their responsibility and precision. Also, with the development of technology and science, there are more opportunities for paid internships abroad for those studying science and technology, including students of KSTU. Additionally, young women who have technical education and those working in specialty fields are able to achieve their own personal goals and obtain a high standing in society.

 

During Anipa Usukojoeva’s presentation, the importance of the development in Kyrgyzstan of STEM (S – Science, T – Technology, - E – Engineering, M – Math) was noted. Women’s education in STEM makes it possible to reduce poverty and the mortality rate, and additionally, create the opportunity for women to make important technical decisions on the same plane as men, and from this, provide the opportunity for Kyrgyzstan to reach a new level in development. STEM education – this is an educated woman – this is educated children, a developed state.

After the official part, a meet and greet was held in the KSTU departments for female participants of the STEM winter school. There, the girls were also able to meet the teachers. It should be noted that, because of the large interest in the event, 30 people attended instead of the 15 that were originally planned for.

As a reminder, the STEM winter school in Bishkek will be held from January 26 to February 5. Through the winter school course, the girls will be taught mathematics, computer literacy, and German language. In addition to the classes mentioned, master-classes will be held by the Kyrgyz-German Technical Institute. Leaders of I. Razzakov KSTU who are native speakers will teach the courses.
