October 28, 2015, 06:00

This past Saturday, October 17th, more than 5000 seedlings were planted around 15 schools in city residential areas and suburbs.

The eco-event “Green Bishkek: School landscaping” which is part of the “Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva” Foundation’s “Think Globally – Act Locally: Improving ecological responsibility among children and youth” eco-project was held with the support of the State Agency on Environment Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Bishkek City Mayor’s Office of Education.

The “Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva” Foundation managing director D. S. Kendirbaeva, the State Agency on Environment Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic director S. S. Atajanov, the Bishkek City Mayor’s Office of Education vice-director N. V. Nikiforova and the Chui-Bishkek Region Office vice-director A. A. Kydyrgychev attended this magnificent event at School No. 89.

School administrators and 11th and 1st grade students attended the seedling planting. The seedling planting was the upper class students’ idea; all year they saw to the care of the seedlings and at the end of the year they will be teaching the care of the seedlings and what they learned to this year’s first graders. We hope that this project will impart the feeling of responsibility for the care of our surroundings and the cleanliness of the city.

As a reminder, under this project over 1,200 seedlings were planted in the spring of 2015 around six schools in Bishkek through the event “Green Bishkek: School landscaping.”

The consultancy expert and director of “YRYSTAN”Public Foundation, D. Vetoshkin, provided the seeds for the 15 schools.
