The gathering for The Coalition for “Open Education” was held September 10th, 2015 in Bishkek. The participants there were introduced to reforms in open education in Poland and other European countries.

Today, Poland is counted as one of the leaders in open education resources (OER), along with Brazil. The national government mentioned establishing e-readers and e-material, and creating a system for improving the qualifications of teachers as ways they could support OERs. It all started with Wikipedia, which is considered to be the largest of open education resources.

The Kyrgyz Wikipedia site jumped many places, moving from the 192nd place to 88th. According to T. Chorotelin, the president of “Kyrgyz History Community” international community association, today Wikipedia has 42,000 pages in the Kyrgyz language. However, not all pages are accounted for in Wikipedia’s count, and there are more pages than the number displays. Tynchtyk Chorotegin invited all participants of the gathering to join the active Wikipedists in creating their own entries for the electronic encyclopedia.

The outcome of the meeting included suggestions for dividing participant’s responsibilities into the following committees: filing more pages in Wikipedia, trainings for developing technical skills for school administrators, and further development of the coalition’s website. The first committee meetings will be held between September 14th and September 22nd, 2015.
