The Third Festival of Education – Ecofest opens in Bishkek

In Bishkek, the Skryabin Kyrgyz National Agrarian University (KNAU) today held a ceremony to mark the opening of the 3rd Festival of Education - Ecofest.

The organizers of the Festival are the IPF "Initiative of Roza Otunbayeva," the mayor's office in Bishkek, and KNAU.

Ecofestival is one component of a large-scale environmental projects, "Think Globally, Act Locally: Increasing environmental awareness and responsibility among children and youth."

As noted by former President Roza Otunbayeva, the event is a significant event for the people. "The aim of the festival is to increase civic responsibility and the level of environmental culture among children and youth, as well as residents of the city of Bishkek. We want to teach children how to grow plants, because our schools do not teach this, and at the youth of today have the chance to learn all this," she said.

Present at the event, the first lady of Kyrgyzstan Raisa Atambaeva thanked Otunbayeva for initiating this project personally on behalf of President Atambaev. "This event teaches us and our children to think about environmental issues and encourages the care of the environment. We should not be a bystander, and be partakers of environmental events and activities, "- said R. Atambaeva.

In turn, the mayor of Bishkek Kubanichbek Kulmatov noted that the mayor's office for three years supports this initiative. "Thank you for coming to the festival, then all you are interested in the fate of the city. We will continue to partner with the organizers of this project, "- said the mayor.

Visitors and the festival provided the opportunity to participate in master classes and tours of the ecological paths, watch films about the environment in 3D-planetarium, learn about all the educational services of the city at the site "Trade Fair of educational services."
