From January 26-30, 2014, Russian expert Alexei Malashenko will visit Kyrgyzstan

As part of the “Discover Asia” project, the Roza Otunbayeva Initiative has invited the leading Russian orientalist, Alexei Malashenko, to talk about Islam in Russia, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

 

Mr. Malashenko will host two open discussions the role of Islam in Russia, Central Asia, and the Middle East based on recent events and historical trends. The first will be on January 27th at 4 p.m. at KSNU, and the second will be on January 28th, at 10 a.m. at KTU “Manas”. Mr. Malashenko will be able for questions at both events. He will also give a live talk on “Birinchi Radio” on January 27th.

Mr. Maleshenko, a doctorate in historical sciences, is a senior researcher and co-chair of the “Religion, Society, and Security” department at the Moscow Carnegie Center. He is also a leading researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies and a professor at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. Mr. Maleshenko is the author and editor of numerous books in Russian, English, French, and Arabic, including, “Islam in Central Asia,” “Islamic Alternative and the Islamist Project,” “Islam in Russia,” “My Islam,” “Central Asia: What Matters to Russia?” and “The Fight for Influence: Russia in Central Asia.”

 

The Roza Otunbayeva Initiative invites all public figures, experts, academics, journalists, and bloggers to this lecture.
