The “Mahatma Gandhi and Modern India” Scientific-Practical Conference will take place on June 8th, 2016 at the K. Karasaev Bishkek University for the Humanities. The event is being organized by the International Public Foundation “Roza Otunbayeva Foundation,” with the support of the Indian Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Objective of the Conference – To discuss Gandhi’s ideas and their impact on modern Indian society and youth, as well as take a look at the multifaceted aspects of the Kyrgyz-Indian relationship, while dwelling on the subjects of scientific exchanges, research, education, and culture.

Famous scientists, governmental and social workers, and publishing authors from Kyrgyzstan will participate in the Conference.

The main reason behind the decision to host the conference was the recent publication of a Kyrgyz-language version of the great Indian humanist and educator’s book, entitled Менин өмүр таржымакалым, же Чындыкка умтулуу жаатындагы тажырыйбаларым тууралуу (An Autobiography: The Story of My Experiments with Truth).

The Kyrgyz-language version was written by historian and publicist Tinchtikbek Chorotegin along with a group of translators, historians, and linguists as part of an intitiative by Ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic R.I. Otunbayeva. The book was published with a circulation of 2000 copies, through the financial support of the Indian Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The Kyrgyz-language version of Mahatma Gandhi’s book will give a wide spectrum of Kyrgyz readers the chance to learn about India’s complex history at the beginning of the 20th century, as well about the social, political, and economic processes and cultural characteristics that have shaped Kyrgyzstan’s gigantic neighbor on the path to development.

The book presentations are part of the conference, in which a variety of scholars, diplomats, and Indologists will be participating.
