“Meetings at the Museum: “Socialism and Art for the People”

April 9, 2013, 06:00

On April 10th, 2013 at 18:00 the lecture in the “Meetings at the Museum” will be held. This time the issue under discussion will be “Socialism and Art for the People”.

Socialist Realism in Kyrgyzstan, thanks to the efforts of an earlier generation of artists, became an important milestone in the development of the republic’s fine art. This was not a primitive propaganda achievement of Stalin’s USSR but rather a service to the people with realistic art without servility and bias. The works of Chuikov, Aitiev, Akylbekov, Flekman, Ilina and many others became an authentic portrait of an era of hopes and disappointments.

Lecturer:

- Gamal Bokonbaev, culturologist, director of the “Tolon Museum of Modern Art”, and well-known modern art theorist.
