Learn About Ukrainian Musical Culture

Saturday January 25, 2014 – Local residents and guests are invited to our third event in the “Music – Soul of the Nation” concert series. This event will be devoted to the musical culture of the Ukrainian people. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in the large auditorium of the Kyrgyz National Conservatory at 115 Dzhantoshev St. (near the intersection of Rozybakiev St. with Sovietskaya). Admission is free.

The Roza Otunbayeva Initiative, the People’s Assembly of Kyrgyzstan, and the Kyrgyz National Conservatory organized the program with generous support from UNDP and informational assistance from the “START” publishing house.

The Ukrainian language is considered one of the most lyrical after Italian. The Ukrainian musical tradition is so rich that it is said that music accompanies Ukrainians their entire lives. This concert will allow viewers to enjoy beautiful music, witness spectacular dances and costumes, and see the similarities between Ukrainian and Kyrgyz cultures.

Roza Otunbayeva, ex-President of the Kyrgyz Republic and founder of the “Roza Otunbayeva” International Public Foundation, exclaims: “We are now living in one family – one country, and to better understand and respect one another, we need to learn about each other – our languages, cultures, and traditions. This will preserve and enhance the cultural heritage of each ethnicity and enrich the overall cultural bounty of the people of Kyrgyzstan.”

This event is part of an 11-part series of concert-lectures dedicated to the musical cultures of the individual ethnic groups living in Kyrygzstan, presenting and explaining ethnic dances, songs, lyrics, and traditions.
