The award of Search for Common Ground will be Presented to former president of the Kyrgyz Republic Roza Otunbayeva

Search for Common Ground, the world’s largest dedicated peacebuilding organization, will honor leading peace activists at its Annual Common Ground Awards, on November 1, 2018. More than a hundred leaders from the US government and the diplomatic, business, and entertainment sector are scheduled to gather at the InterContinental New York Barclay hotel, New York City, for the event.

 

Now in its 19th year, the Common Ground Awards ceremony is dedicated to honoring people who have made significant contributions toward finding solutions to seemingly intractable conflict and violence. This year’s Awardees are being recognized for their unprecedented work in the fields of peacebuilding, democracy, countering violent extremism, and religious tolerance, both in their local communities and internationally.

 

The 2018 Awardees include:

 

Her Excellency RozaOtunbayeva, former President of Kyrgyzstan

H.E. RozaOtunbayeva became President of the Kyrgyz Republic after the April 2010 Revolution. The first woman President of Kyrgyzstan, she led her country to the first peaceful transition of power in Central Asia. H.E. RozaOtunbayeva previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Kyrgyz Republic, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, and Kyrgyz Ambassador to Canada. Today, she leads the RozaOtunbayeva Initiative, an organization working for the social, economic, and political development of Kyrgyzstan.
