On 15 March in the Kyrgyz National University named for Arabaev a training seminar was held for teachers of the natural sciences called ““Science in our lives. The experience of the Science Centre, Vienna”.

The training seminar was organized by the “Roza Otunbayeva Initiative” International Public Foundation in cooperation with the Science Centre of Vienna (Austria) and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic. Participating in the event’s opening were the Austrian First Lady, Ms. Magrit Fischer; Kyrgyzstani First Lady, Raisa Atambaeva; former President of Kyrgyzstan, Roza Otunbayeva; teachers; scientists and public figures.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Otunbayeva noted that Kyrgyzstan is a small, young nation. “Science has shown that children younger than 3 years of age are genius, and we need to work with them and develop their capabilities. There are more than 1 million children living in our country. We are talking about how to contribute to the promoting of science. Our nation is small and young. Our goal is to focus attention to the fact that in addition to such young disciplines like business, finance, and law, there are the natural sciences. Kyrgyzstan will become green from economics. Energy and alpine mining are our two wings, but how can we take action so that our children become engineers?” the ex-president asked. “It is necessary to devote maximum attention on primary education, so that we will gain qualified specialists tomorrow,” Roza Otunbayeva emphasized.

In turn Ms. Fisher reported that the Centre for Science in Vienna (Austria), which she directs, is a network of research centers that promote science among children. This network has 130 partners – museums, companies, education and scientific institutions, and others. “We created this organization 20 years ago with the goal of uniting the various sciences,” she said.
