International Children’s Book Day

April 2, 2013, 06:00

April 2nd, Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday, is celebrated around the world as International Children’s Book Day. The goal of this day is to attract attention to children’s literature, literary arts and literary culture as well as to the issues of access to children’s literature and the spread of child literacy.

The “Roza Otunbayeva Initiative” International Public Foundation also places great importance on the spread of child literacy through the promotion of child education. To this end, we would like to announce that on May 18th and 19th, 2013, the first citywide Education Festival will be held in Bishkek. One of the components of this event will be a “Book Swap”. This interactive event includes a book fair, opportunities for festivalgoers to meet children’s authors and publishers, and a charity book and toy collection for village kindergartens and schools. Additionally at this event pop stars, famous athletes and prominent government and social figures will read fairytales to children.
