"Pulses, including all varieties of dry beans and peas, are a cheap, delicious and highly nutritious source of protein and essential basic elements that can benefit health," - this is the main message of the UN’s 2016 International Year of Pulses.

In Batken School in Batken district, legumes are included in the school meal menu.

Legumes are a unique product. They are tasty, nutritious and extremely useful: legumes are high in fiber, vitamins (A and B group), iron, calcium, carbohydrates, and high in protein (of which about half of legumes are, and more have the remaining vitamins).

First of all, beans have a lot of protein and this type is very close to meat proteins. However, while 15% of meat is protein, beans contain up to 30%.

The value in beans is that they have a high vitamin content and contain essential amino acids and mineral salts. They contain vitamins C, PP, A, E, and B group vitamins, potassium, iron, phosphorus, and calcium.
