“KYRGYZSTAN LEARNING MONGOLIAN EXPERIENCES IN DEMOCRACY AND ELECTIONS”

August 2, 2015, 06:00

The President Ts.Elbegdorj Tuesday received Ms Roza Otunbayeva, a former President of Kyrgyzstan, who has arrived here to attend the 25th anniversary of the first democratic election of Mongolia.

Ms Otunbayeva pointed out that her country is studying Mongolian experiences in democratic elections, and Kyrgyzstan will utilize an electric system for the first time at the forthcoming parliamentary election that will run on October 4, 2015. Apart from the parliamentary election of this year, the local election is scheduled in 2016 and the Presidential election--in 2017, she said.

The President Mr Elbegdorj said the electric system of elections is helpful for carrying out elections with fairer and less confusing results, and underlined an importance of a general registration of voters’ names.

“It is also important to hold a social poll on the election matters, but such poll could show biased results if it is carried out by political parties, so the independent poll should be organized in accordance with international standards,” underlined Mr Elbegdorj.

The sides touched upon issues of exchanging delegates for learning experiences in combating corruption and elections, and holding joint conferences on Tengerism and cultural heritage of nomads.

Ms Otunbayeva expressed her willingness to study Mongolian experience in urban management.
