Vice-mayors Mars Sakkaraev and Aigul Ryskulova met with "Think Globally, Act Locally: Improving Environmental Responsibility Among Children and Youth" Project Coordinator, Isak kyzy Klara, and director of the Otunbaeyva Initiative, Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva. Heads of various city services also attended the meeting.

The sides discussed issues on cooperation between City Hall and the Initiative, particularly the implementation of the “Think Globally, Act Locally” project to increase the level of environmental responsibility and culture among children, youth and city residents.

Project Coordinator Isak kyzy Klara said that the Initiative views City Hall as the main partner in this project and youth in and around Bishkek as a major asset.

"We will begin work in Bishkek, the face of our country. Our goal is to involve children and young people of the capital in improving the environment," she said.

As part of the project, there will be eco-activities, jointly organized volunteer work like the TazaBISH eco-volunteer troop. Also, with the beginning of spring, schoolyard greenification pilot projects will be launched at five schools in the capital.

In turn, vice-mayor Mars Sakkaraev noted the importance of the project for the city.

"The problem of ecology is important. Many developed countries attach great importance to ecology and many thrown-out plastic bags are recycled. In a short time, there will be eurocontainers installed in the city, and our task today is to teach the young generations to sort garbage and take care of the environment. For its part, the municipality will support the activities to be undertaken under the project to improve the environment," he stated.
