Clean Air in My Neighbourhood

The Roza Otunbayeva Initiative International Public Foundation together with the State Innovation Centre and the Unison Group Public Foundation with the support of the International Organization for Migration has launched the project "Clean Air in My Neighborhood". Air pollution in Bishkek has become one of the biggest environmental and socio-economic problems in recent years. Bishkek tops the list of the world's cities in terms of air pollution during the winter period. As part of the project, inhabitants of residential areas will receive training on the use of energy-efficient technologies, on proper choice and rules of planting green spaces, as well as on the disposal of household waste to increase capacity and awareness on air pollution prevention. There will be training sessions for the inhabitants of new residential areas on how to write projects to improve the environmental situation in the city. The best local eco projects and initiatives will receive small grants of up to $10,000 to pursue their aims and objectives related to improving infrastructure in the new residential areas. The State Innovation Centre will provide an opportunity for participants to visit the "Fablab" and "Youth Lab" production laboratories for prototyping and testing the training participants' ideas, the opportunity to use the co-working area to write business plans, and the resources of the library at no charge. The project will be implemented in 25 residential areas of Bishkek with the highest levels of air pollution.

Project goals:

The aim of the project is to raise awareness among internal migrants who live in residential areas of Bishkek city and to develop their capacity through training sessions on the importance of preventing air pollution.
